Here Comes The Chosen Niche and Product

Before I go deeper into the niche and product selection, I just wanted to let you know a little bit more about myself. In my previous post I mentioned my IM experience but I must tell you a little how my life looks like.

I am 43, a mother of 2 boys, 6 and 11, who constatly compete with me over computer time. So in my online marketing efforts I have to compete over work time with sites like Webkinz and Travian.... I work half day in the office and half day as well as nights, from home.
Recently I also squeezed in a web promotion project for an offline electronics company, following Howie's $10K model. However, these guys are barely paying $1K....

So between work, cooking, cleaning, dishes, laundry and computer fights, I launch some web 2.0 properties into cyberspace.....some are successful and some are not. Some get 1st page in Google and some do not rank at all.... I even got some of them flagged (especially with Hubpages) but from each one I learn what works and what doesn't. These insights will be mentioned later on...

I decided to go for the weight loss niche, even though its really very very competitive and to get some ranking you need to be very key-word specific (long tail or branding).

As I mentioned in my last post, I strongly identify with this niche..... As a weight challeneged person.

For a product, I am picking "Truth About Diets", a Clickbank product made by Bill And Jim Germanakos, Winners Of 'The Biggest Loser' Season 4. The product reveals the weight loss program they used to loose over 160 Lbs each in just 8 months.

Although the popularity of this product is not so high (gravity only around 17) the product is new, only launched about a week ago, so there is still some buzz around it. Also, there is good branding for this product, for example :

(1) The Germanakos brothers being celebrities in the niche.
(2) A "specific method" named RAM - Rapid Action Metabolism"
(3) The name of the site : "Truth About Diets" which is similar to a very successful Clickbank product "Truth About Abs".

My goal is to promote the product and to make at least $100 from this specific product during the contest time.

Regarding the payout from this product, its OK but not that great, only $29.33 per copy, meaning that I have to make at least 4 sales to reach my goal. Typically I would suggest to go for higher paying products.

The general Methodology :

- Keyword research - aim for the branding keywords, specifically around the product name and author.
- Create a main blog post around the product.

- Generate 7 web 2.0 properties around the main keyword, linked to each other.

- Place PDFs and Powerpoint slides on sites like Scribd, Doctstoc and Slideshare.

- Submiting free Press Releases.

- Video skinning - I just learned this word from Keith Wellman. I mean, After I finish with these Germanakos twins, they will not only be skinny but Video skinny..... Basically it means taking all the important points from the sales page and putting it into a video clip. One tool that I found very handy for quickly creating these videos is Articles to Video (it does cost some money, but its awesome).
